Meet Nicole Macias Garibay

I want to be an investigative reporter at the U.S. - Mexico border to write and document the stories of people affected by activities and policies implemented in this region.
 
I decided to follow this career path because I want to be an active member of the border community by sharing the stories of people living there.

​I believe I can contribute to a better representation of Latinos in news.

​I'm a graduate student at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree and a minor in Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies.

​I'm from Nogales, Sonora, and I lived for 5 years in Juarez, Chihuahua. Both are Mexican border cities with the U.S. This proximity allowed me to cross the border every day, go to school in the U.S. and create a transborder identity based on the exchange of these countries' cultures, languages, and traditions.
